Milca J. Reid

September 16, 1931 — August 9, 2025

Bensalem

Milca Jane Reid was born on September 16, 1931, in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the youngest of three children born to her late mother, Inez Henry. In 1987, Milca immigrated to the United States, making it her home. She settled in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, where she worked as a caregiver to the elderly. While caring for other families, she always found time to care for her own.

Her faith was unwavering. In 1999, she joined Linconia Tabernacle Christian Center in Trevose, Pennsylvania, where she remained a devout member until her final days. She loved reading her Bible at any time of day and often made notes in one of the many Bibles she owned.

Milca was the embodiment of virtue, selflessness, and love. She dedicated her life to her family, and her kindness extended far beyond them, reaching strangers and anyone in need. Growing up, her home was a safe haven for children—she often took in those who needed care and treated them with the same love and devotion she gave her own. One of her greatest legacies was the way she raised her brother’s three sons—Rhionan, Barrington, and Delroy—after he migrated to London. She took on this responsibility at just 18 years old, before having children of her own. She also helped raise other family members and neighbors, including Oral Ferguson and Paul Rochester, to name a few. With unwavering commitment, she ensured each child felt loved, supported, and valued—never less than her biological children. Education was always her priority, and she worked tirelessly to guide these young men into becoming respectable gentlemen.

Her parenting style was firm yet gentle. She believed in discipline, but often, her presence alone was enough to keep everyone in line—one look from her could straighten anyone out. At the same time, she was lighthearted and funny, knowing when to bring joy and laughter into a room. Beyond her role as a mother, she was a true companion in life, sharing simple joys like long walks and shopping trips. Franklin Mills Mall was one of her favorite places, where she would spend hours browsing and bonding with loved ones. Milca also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, and solving crossword puzzles in her free time. When her health declined, those carefree days became fewer, and her companionship was deeply missed.

Though we say goodbye to her physical presence today, her spirit will remain with us—guiding, inspiring, and reminding us to live with the same love, kindness, and strength she so gracefully embodied. Milca leaves to mourn her children: Marie (Ray), Marcia (Ozi), Doreen, June, and Avril (George); grandchildren: Ray-Ray, Andre (Keri), Nicholas (Tricia), Rene, Shanice, Demi, Alyssa, and Jenner; and her great-grandson, Jaxon.
