Lee “Skip” R. Buckland Jr., 66, of Levittown, PA passed away suddenly on Monday, November 6, 2023.
He was born on September 8, 1957, in Attica, New York to Lee R. Buckland Sr. and Nancy Buckland, the oldest of their four children.
Skip was a devoted husband to Cheryl for over 46 years. In that time, they welcomed four children and seven grandchildren to their family and built a beautiful life together in Pennsylvania. Family always came first for Skip, who were his best friends. He would always refer to them as “some of his favorite people.” While he did not actively seek outside friendships, he was friendly to those who proved worthy of his time and attention and in return, he treated them just like members of the family.
He was prideful and possessed a silent strength. He never sought to be the center of attention, but you knew he was in the room. He was a protector, a calming presence in times of turmoil, and a helping hand in times of need. There isn’t much he wouldn’t do for anyone, all you had to do was ask.
He was a knowledgeable and curious person with a strong work ethic and a knack for problem solving. All traits that he instilled in his children. There wasn’t a task he would shy away from or a thing that he couldn’t fix.
Fishing was a favorite hobby of Skip’s, whether it be on the banks of the Neshaminy Creek, on his boat on the Delaware River, or a charter boat on the Atlantic Ocean. As long as the company was good and the fish were biting, he was in his happy place.
He genuinely enjoyed the simplicity of vegetable gardening. He built his own greenhouse out of scrap materials, where if not for current circumstances, would already be gathering materials to grow plants from seed for the next growing season. Many of the seeds he harvested were from his own previous crops. He had a knack for growing tomatoes, producing such successful yields that it caused family members to not only look up countless ways to prepare a tomato, but to brush up on their canning skills as well.
While he enjoyed traveling to new places on vacation, nothing brought him more joy than visiting family, especially his two daughters, who both live outside of Pennsylvania.
If his children had a sporting event, dance recital, band, or chorus concert, he was there. As his family grew and they began lives of their own, he could be found on the sidelines of his grandchildren’s sporting events cheering them on.
Skip will be desperately missed by all those that he has left behind. Our hearts are broken by this sudden, unexpected loss. He was one of a kind and to have known him and be loved by him were truly some of life’s greatest blessings.
Skip is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Buckland; his children: John Buckland (Bethann), Jason Buckland (Diane), Jennifer Dozier (Josh), and Jacqueline Heaning (Eric); his grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Kevin, Erin, Andrew, Joey, Ryan, Elizabeth, and Bridget; his parents: Lee R. Buckland Sr. and Nancy Buckland; his siblings: LuAnn Henry (Robert), Lisa Foster (Tim), and Larry Buckland (Mary); mother-in-law, Gloria Miller; brothers-in-law: Gregory Miller Sr. and Michael Miller, and countless nieces and nephews.
