Jeanette Modzik Sottile passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024. She was born in West Virgina to parents Rose Potempa Modzik and Joseph Modzik who came to the United States from Poland. Jeanette graduated from high school at the age of 15 and modeled upon graduation. She met her husband, James Sottile, while at West Virginia University and they moved back to Pennsylvania to start a family. They were married for over 60 years and have four children, Anita Giampietro (Neil), James, Derek (Kate), and David. Jeanette has four grandchildren, Matthew Giampietro, Natalie Croft (Mike), Allison Dorgan (Dan), and Heather Sottile. Jeanette had many siblings which included sisters, Irene Liberatore (Arthur), Anna Yashinsky (Alexander), Helen Osecky (Benjamin), Carol, and Elizabeth; along with five brothers George (Sue), Andrew (Bertha), Junior (Irene), William (Pat), and Joseph (Victoria). In addition to her brothers, sisters, and children, she had many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jeanette was a loving mother and caring wife who put her family first and foremost. She had a quiet patience and humble understanding of life. She was a lifelong learner who took college classes midlife and loved to read. She enjoyed learning about historical events and people. Jeanette had numerous hobbies including cake decoration and crocheting. Jeanette retired from the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia after earning many awards and accolades. In her retirement, she continued to stay active with her family.
Family and friends are invited to gather Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 9 - 10 a.m. at St Ann Church, 357 Dorrance Street, Bristol, PA 19007. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery under the direction of Galzerano Funeral Home.
